This blog is a way of sharing the information and resources that have helped me to recover my son Roo from an Autism Spectrum Disorder. What I have learned is to view our symptoms as the results of underlying biological cause, which can be identified and healed. I say "our symptoms" because I also have a neuro-immune disorder called Myalgic Encephalomyelitis.

And, of course, I am not a doctor (although I have been known to impersonate one while doing imaginative play with my son)- this is just our story and information that has been helpful or interesting to us. I hope it is helpful and interesting to you!

D.I.Y. Home Remedies

Making our own versions of commercial products such as personal care products, cleaning products, and OTC medications and treatments is one way to significantly lower our exposure to the harmful ingredients that are commonly in the commercial versions of these products.  Homemade products are often less expensive and may also provide more options for addressing our health needs.

GENERAL SOURCES

HOME TREATMENTS

How to never have a serious poison ivy rash again

Hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) works better than antibiotics in many infections because it can penetrate biofilms to get at the pathogen easily, whereas antibiotics don't get through easily and therefore must be given in higher doses to address this.  Also, hydrogen peroxide breaks down into water and oxygen, and oxygen is a very powerful antimicrobial agent.  (From this video)  Keep in mind, oxygen can also increase oxidative stress.

According to Dr Berg, hydrogen peroxide also works well as a mouthwash.  Hydrogen peroxide is made by our white blood cells to fight off pathogens by destroying their cell walls and by oxidation.

To gargle with hydrogen peroxide mix one part H2O2 with 4 parts water and swish or gargle it for 30 seconds.  It can also be used to clean cuts and scrapes, to remove stains from fabric, and even to wash vegetables (ratio of 1 part H2O2 to 4 parts water, soak veggies for a few minutes before rinsing them).
